Seeing Things In A New Light

A few days ago, I went to our regular park for a dog walk in the early morning. It’s a park that I visit with our springer, Barney, most days. I’ve been there hundreds of times by now. But on this morning there was something different.

You can see from the picture that we were in the half-light, with the sun only just coming up over the horizon. There was frost over the grass and playpark and it looked incredible. It was like seeing this same place in a new fresh way. It looked mystical in the half-light. Some moments are incredible and they can be a real gift to us. The scene was changing with each moment as the sky grew lighter and showed more of the detail of the park. By the time we left, the look of the park completely transformed and my mood and perspective had changed.

I reflected that there are lots of parallels of how we see ourselves in our lives, and this can often be brought out within coaching sessions…

The newness in our lives – we can all become deeply engrossed in living our lives day-to-day, and things become autopilot. Often we don’t see the changes and the beauty within these moments. There are continuous new shoots growing and new opportunities for you when you pause to look for them.

A fresh perspective – whether just taking stock of your situation or if you’re in particular times of transition, it’s helpful to take a fresh look at your life, your priorities, and what you want your current focus to be.

Mystical and meaningful – we often want to see beyond the everyday routine to what is most important to us. In a variety of ways, we want to connect more deeply with ourselves and others. What is your deeper purpose and longing? What direction are you feeling guided into?

You are incredible – everyone walking this planet is unique with their own mix of giftings and experiences. Yet we can be resistant to recognizing the best of who we are and often we’re our own worst critics! Coaching supports you to embrace the best of who you are and to develop this even further.

Life can be tough and difficult at times. Coaching can provide an opportunity to honour this but also help remind yourself of your resilience, of how you’ve come through previous challenges and the very best of who you’ve been. You can identify and even increase those moments of resilience.

We are dynamic and ever-changing people - who you are right now may feel to be very different than the person five years ago or even this time last year. Although we can get very stuck in where we are and have a deep desire to shift out from this. By sitting with someone who is there only for you gives you an opportunity to focus and to honestly take stock…

- What has changed recently for you?

- Where are you right now?

- Where are you heading this year?

Looking beyond your recent past and your present can help you to focus on the future.

Deep transformation – this can happen incredibly in unexpected moments of recognition. Coaching is a journey and people often leave this transformed, sometimes after only one or two sessions.

Everyday there is a new dawn, with new opportunities. With this New Year, perhaps it would help to take time out and reflect on things in a new light?
